Marcia Lewis, Pastor
Pastor Marcia Lewis comes to us after having completed numerous graduate degrees, including MA in Christian Education, Master of Divinity, and Master of Theology in Christian Ethics and Theology, all from the Princeton Theological Seminary. Marcia (pronounced Mar-see-ah) is originally from the Caribbean island of St. Vincent. She attended several colleges in the New York City metropolitan area, and began attending a Presbyterian church in the city.
It was during her time at the NY City church that Marcia was trained in their Stephen Ministry program as a leader who provides spiritual care to a person undergoing a particularly challenging life transition. That experience led her to a deeper interest in ordained ministry, and she enrolled at the Princeton Theological Seminary. She was certified as a candidate ready for a call by the Presbytery of New York City in 2012, and will be ordained in spring of 2019.
During her time here in the Princeton area, Marcia has involved herself in ministerial leadership roles that include serving as an intern at Witherspoon Street Presbyterian Church, volunteering in ministry at Nassau Presbyterian church, and working as a Pulpit Supply Pastor at Hillsborough Presbyterian Church. She has also worked with the lay leadership at Turning Point United Methodist Church in their discerning process with respect to the challenges of adapting to a changing cultural context.
As a half-time pastor to our church, Marcia expects to have a bi-vocational career. Her earlier degrees include a BBA: Accounting (1985), and a BA in History and Philosophy (2006).
Marcia is passionate and enthusiastic about church growth, as well as teaching and preaching the gospel to effect change. In her words, "Our Christian heritage, we must remember, has a tradition of embracing change and yet thriving."
